High-Tech for Main Natural Gas Artery
In an I&C project that lasted a year and a half, the very latest measuring instruments for natural gas pipes were installed
Austria also makes a major contribution to the region-wide provision of natural gas. With around 1140 kilometers of high-pressure pipelines between the Slovakian-Austrian and Austrian-Italian borders, the main artery of the Central European transmission network runs right across our country. More than 30 billion cubic metres of natural gas are transported annually through this pipeline network. To ensure better gas measurement using state-of-the-art technology, Kremsmueller was involved on-site in this high-tech project for one and a half years. Eight existing filter separators were replaced by new ones and 28 ultrasonic gas meters (USGM) were installed with the required pressure and temperature measurements. The station’s control system was enhanced with the new signals from the ultrasonic gas meter measurements and filter separators and the visualization was adapted accordingly.
What was particularly challenging was the ongoing operation during the work. The new measuring system had to be commissioned in parallel to the existing one.
