Two duplex stainless steel tanks for Neptune Energy in northern Germany
Kremsmüller has manufactured, delivered and installed two new tanks for Neptune Energy in northern Germany. Kremsmüller contributed its expertise to the project and thus minimised future maintenance efforts.
The scope of work included a water storage tank with a height of 18 metres and a diameter of 23 metres, and an oil tank with a height of 16 metres and a diameter of 15 metres, along with production, delivery and assembly, as well as pipe installations and structural steelwork.
The tender called for the construction of carbon steel tanks with a coating. Kremsmüller was able to contribute its expertise in the consultations that followed, and advised the customer in favour of duplex steel. The main advantages of employing stainless steel are lower construction costs because the need for coating is eliminated and, as a result, far lower maintenance costs.

Nicole Hengstmann, Project Manager at Neptune Energy, expressed her appreciation accordingly. She greatly values the expert advice she received from Kremsmüller and the significantly reduced maintenance costs. “We would never have achieved all this if we hadn’t consulted you,” commented Hengstmann in the interview.
Jens Balmer, Head of Projects and Engineering at Neptune Energy, is also more than satisfied. He believes that Kremsmüller “played a crucial role in bringing the project to its successful conclusion”. Balmer also emphasised Kremsmüller’s meticulous planning with regard to quality and schedule, which was no mean feat since the entire project was carried out in the corona period.
Heinz Fischer from VTU Engineering, who was in charge of construction management, particularly emphasised the quality of the work in the interview. Of the 300 weld seams, only 3 had to be reworked, an excellent performance by the skilled workers involved, according to Fischer.
